A few words about my path--
My path in art has been long, not straight, and personal.
I have learned along the way from many sources, institutional, teachers, friends, the work of other artists, from reading, from music, and from being my own most harsh art critic.
Picasso said something to the effect, "One thing they'll say about me, and that is that I have worked." This line resonates with me. I feel that through work that occasionally I have achieved something which seems no longer to belong to me, that it has a life of its own.
In spring 2009 I decided to apply to juried art shows as I have never really shown my work. I have so far been accepted in the Associated Arts of Ocean Shores, 2009 and again in 2010, and received 3rd prize this year. I was invited to the Expressions West Coos Bay Art Museum Exhibit, May-June 2009, and again in 2010. I received honorable mention in the Americas 2009 Minot All Media national juried show. I won Best of Show in the 2010 Women's Works show in Woodstock, Illinois, this May. I have been accepted as an alternate emerging artist in the Art in the Pearl of Portland, Oregon, and have been chosen to participate in the Portland Open Studios tour of 100 artists and crafts people for fall 2010. Also I have a piece going to the Cooperstown NY 75th annual juried art exhibition this July. These are meaningful to me as they make me thnk that others must resonate with what I am doing. It is a source of happiness to share my vision with others.
My approach to art tends toward the spiritual and psychological. I cannot really state in words what I do. It is just something I must do, and when a piece emerges that is successful I am briefly happy. Starting a new piece is a big struggle and the final result is often a lot different from my original idea. It often reveals something I had not thought of when I began and has taken on a life of its own.
